Climbing Equipment

racking the harnessThe Rock Climbing Company will provide all the technical safety equipment necessary for all their climbing and scrambling courses.

This includes ropes, helmets, harnesses and climbing hardware. Clients are welcome to use their own harness and helmet if they wish, but we will need to check to make sure they are in serviceable condition.

Clients on the more advanced courses are more than welcome to use their own racks of hardware as the more you use your own kit the better; we can also supplement your rack with additional hardware from our own extensive racks. Thus you could borrow some brass micro wires ( RP's, HB Offsets, DMM IMPs) for the duration of the course to see whether you find them useful or you could try different brands of camming devices (DMM 4CU's, Friends or Camalots) to see which you prefer. We have an extesive range of carabiners and thus you can see which type of carabiner you prefer - solid gate or wire gate, large body for easy handling or small and light to reduce the weight of your climbing rack.

Silvia is sponsored by DMM and Mammut and so clients will have the opportunity to try the latest equipment on the market.

We normally advise clients not to rush out and buy kit for the course, but use the course as a chance to find out what equipment would best suit your needs. If you need a specific piece of equipment for the course then please contact us and we can see if we have anything suitable that you could borrow or hire.

One of the best independent sites for independent information on kit is Andy Kirkpatrick's Psychovertical.com - informative and funny.

Clients should bring their own technical footwear.

Clients should bring the following personal equipment :

  • Warm outdoor wear (all times of the year)
  • Hat, gloves or mitts (all times of the year)
  • Day rucksack (approx. 40-50 Litres)
  • Small personal first aid kit
  • Water bottle
  • Flask
  • Full set of waterproofs

A light windproof is often very useful on all except the warmest of days.

Try to avoid using cotton items as base layers; the days out will be more comfortable if you are able to use a synthetic base layer
