Climbing and Scrambling in Snowdonia and North Wales

Llanberis Pass - abseil from Left WallThe rock climbing courses we offer in North Wales and Snowdonia cover all the traditional mountaineering, climbing and scrambling activities and we can instruct these skills at all levels.

The climbing instruction we provide ranges from short taster sessions where you will have the opportunity to climb and abseil over the course of a morning or afternoon, through multi-day courses designed to help you lead your first rock climbs to performance climbing coaching for experienced climbers looking to break through a barrier.

Every climbing discipline is catered for in Snowdonia - long scrambles, classic mountaineering routes plus single and multi-pitch cragging.

The courses are run by Silvia Fitzpatrick, who has been climbing at a high level for over 20 years and is a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors and holds the Mountain Instructor Award.

There are so many different areas to visit and each venue offers not only a different environment, but the differing rock geology in each area makes specific demands on the climber whether physical or psychological. Thus one day you can be pinching quartzite flutings next to the sea at Gogarth, another roadside cragging at Tremadog on dolerite that demands confident footwork and the next doing a classic pitch high up in the Llanberis Pass on rugged, pocketed rhyolite.

An added benefit of the North Wales area is that many micro-climates exist, so whilst bad weather may be affecting the central Snowdonia area the outlying cliffs of Tremadog, Pen Trywn or Gogarth can be bathed in sun.

A precis of some the most popular rock climbing courses is set out below - just follow the links for full details. There are no set course itineraries because everybody's requirements are different. We will try to offer you the tuition you want at the correct pace in the best environment.

Introduction to Rock Climbing: An exciting taster of climbing for the adventurous or a fast and effective method of learning the basic skills involved in climbing for those taking their first steps in the sport.

Scrambling in Snowdonia : Snowdonia has many classic scrambles and we can either guide you up these mountain routes or instruct you on how to lead them yourself. This course can cover a lot of bases and could be seen as any of the following; a great introduction to scrambling and climbing, it can give you the skills to tackle some of Britain's great mountain routes or it is perfect training for moving fast on Alpine terrain.

Rock Climbing Improver: Climbing instruction for those who have some climbing experience and want to increase their skill set. This can cover a vast array of topics and is not just about climbing harder, but about climbing efficiently and effectively whilst staying safe. We also use this course to help teach the additional skills needed to climb multi-pitch routes.

Learn to Lead: It often feels intimidating to make the transition from seconding to leading your own climbs, especially when you have mainly climbed indoors. This rock course will give you the skills and confidence to make that step in a safe environment with an instructor on a separate rope alongside you.

Performance Climbing: This course focuses on movement and tactics for saving energy whilst climbing whether leading or seconding

Sea Cliff Climbing: Climbing in these remote environments is a very special experience, but they also require more skills and demand greater self-reliance. This course will equip you with those skills.

Guided Routes and Welsh Classics: Are there routes you have always wanted to do? We can help you achieve this at any level.

Self Rescue: Learn how to get yourself, your partner or even another team out of trouble safely using just the kit you would normally carry.
